March 8, 2000 Four couples left Roswell at 6:00 AM and headed for the Deming Rock & Mineral Show. Whitneys went straight to Deming.

Harniltons, Crockers, and Brookses did some hunting enroute. They collected fossilized coral at Rincon and then went on to Massacre Canyon Fort Cummings where they explored the area and the remains of the fort. Then on to Fluorite Ridge for some fluorite samples and finally on to Deming to spend the night.

On Thursday all four couples took the Big Diggins Field Trip where they dug and collected all the agate they wanted. They returned to Fluorite Ridge and spent the afternoon collecting carnelian and fluorite.

On Friday Whitneys collected nodules southeast of Deming. The others drove to Silver City and on to visit the Gila Cliff Dwellings. Hopscotching the river where they picked up agate and chalcedony, they drove on to Lordsburg where they spent the night. On Saturday the Whitneys attended the Deming show. The others toured the ghost town of Shakespeare before exploring the Shakespeare and Waldo Mine dumps where they collected azurite and chrysocolla. They then drove on to the Apache Mine dump.s near Hachita where they collected, more azurite and chrysocolla.

On Sunday all four couples met for breakfast in Deming, spent some time at the show, and finally returned home. -Bob Brooks
