Field trippers left Roswell at different times on May 19, 2000 headed for Water Canyon - in order of arrival at the campsite:

Crockers, Brookses, Perkirises, Warrens, and Lone Eagles. After setting up camp, several of us walked up the road to check out the rocks. Rosalie and JoAnn collected a good supply of "yard rock" Before supper. we listened to some of Don's music and played chicken foot, and some walked down the creek to find, yes, more yard rock. We had dinner together and then adjourned to the Crockers' trailer to talk and play Skipbo for a while before going to bed in our own rigs.

The next morning we ate breakfast in our own rigs and then met at 8:30 to leave for the Kelly Mine. We stopped at a rock shop in Magdalena to pay our fees to go to the Kelly dumps. Bob found a nice golf ball size Smithsonite specimen. I found only pyrite and another type crystal.

Rosalie collected bags full(of yard rock, I assume - Ed). JoAnn refused to stop for lunch as did Yonis and Yoni. I turned out to be the party pooper, quitting at noon and heading back to camp at 2:00 PM, along with Rosalie, Don, Marian and Perky.. The rest continued looking and collecting. JoAnn kept Bob busy carrying her "finds" to their truck.

Don and Perky decided that the whole area must have been under water in the distant past. Back in camp we played more chicken food before dinner, had, dinner, and played some more before bedtime.

Yonis and Yoni headed back to Roswell after dinner. The next morning we cleaned up camp and got ready to leave for home. Dave and I left about 9:30 and got sprinkled on in Lincoln. The rest continued to hunt for a time and left camp at 1:30 PM headed for Roswell and Ruidoso. -Nettle Crocker
